Check the Basics
- Battery Life: Even though disposable vapes come with a pre – charged battery, it’s possible that the battery has run out. Most disposable vapes have an indicator light. If the light doesn’t turn on when you try to take a puff, the battery is likely dead. Unfortunately, since it’s a disposable device, you can’t recharge the battery. In this case, it might be time to dispose of the vape properly and get a new one. However, if the light flickers or is dim, there could still be some battery life left, and other issues might be causing the lack of a hit.
- E – liquid Level: Another common reason for a disposable vape not hitting is that the e – liquid has run out. Look through the clear or translucent body of the vape to check the e – liquid level. If it appears to be empty, this is likely the root cause. Similar to the battery situation, once the e – liquid is gone, there’s not much you can do to refill a disposable vape, and replacement is the best option.
Physical Inspection and Cleaning
- Airflow Blockage: A blocked airflow can prevent the vape from hitting properly. Inspect the mouthpiece and the air intake holes (usually located at the bottom or sides of the device). Small debris, dust, or even dried e – liquid can clog these areas. Gently blow through the mouthpiece in the opposite direction of normal vaping to try and dislodge any blockages. You can also use a small, clean brush or a toothpick (be very careful not to damage the internal components) to clean around the air intake holes.
- Condensation Buildup: Condensation can accumulate inside the vape, especially if it has been exposed to different temperatures or humidity levels. This can disrupt the airflow and the vapor production. To fix this, hold the vape vertically with the mouthpiece facing down and gently tap the sides of the device. This should help the condensation drain out. If there’s a significant amount of condensation, you may need to repeat this process a few times.
Electrical and Heating Element Issues
- Connection Problems: The heating element in a vape needs to be properly connected to the battery to work. Sometimes, during normal use or if the vape has been dropped, the internal connections can become loose. While it’s not advisable to disassemble a disposable vape as it can be dangerous and void any warranties, you can try gently squeezing the sides of the device (if it feels safe to do so) to see if this helps re – establish the connection. However, be cautious not to apply too much pressure, as you could damage the device further.
- Heating Element Failure: Over time or due to improper use, the heating element in a disposable vape can burn out. If you suspect this is the case, there’s usually not a straightforward way to fix it. Signs of a heating element failure include a burnt smell (even when there’s still e – liquid), no vapor production despite a working battery and sufficient e – liquid, or a very weak hit. In such situations, replacing the vape is usually the only solution.
Environmental Factors
- Temperature: Extreme temperatures can affect the performance of a disposable vape. If the vape has been exposed to very cold temperatures, the e – liquid can thicken, making it difficult for the heating element to vaporize it properly. On the other hand, excessive heat can cause the e – liquid to evaporate too quickly or damage the internal components. If the vape has been in a cold environment, try warming it up gently in your hand for a few minutes. But never use external heat sources like a microwave or a stove, as this can be extremely dangerous and lead to explosions or fires.
- Humidity: High humidity levels can also impact the vape. Moisture in the air can seep into the device and affect the electrical components or the quality of the e – liquid. If you live in a humid area, make sure to store your disposable vapes in a dry, cool place. If the vape has been exposed to high humidity and isn’t hitting, try drying it out in a well – ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
